Best Co-Op PS4 Games: Split-Screen Games to Play With Friends
There are many amazing PS4 games on the market, making deciding which one to buy a much harder choice. There’s a bunch of awesome open-world games, top-notch first-person shooters, and hard-hitting survival games, but what about good old-fashioned couch co-op games?
While split-screen co-op used to be the standard, more and more games are forcing players to play on entirely separate systems if they want to play together.
That’s not the case with all PS4 games, however; Some have stayed true to couch co-op gameplay, allowing friends and family to play with you on the same console, on the same display. The catch? It’s sometimes difficult to figure out which ones offer split-screen and which ones offer online co-op support.
This is where we at Tech Advisor come in. We’ve spent a lot of time playing PlayStation games over the years, and here’s our pick of the best split-screen co-op PS4 games available right now.
Best Split Screen PS4 Co-op Games 2019
If you’re looking for something cinematic to play through with your friends, then A Way Out is a solid option. Developed by Hazelight Studios, the game follows the journey of two brothers as they break out of prison – did someone say Shawshank Redemption?
Seriously, the game offers an exciting couch co-op experience that changes based on your actions, choices, and collaboration. It’s not the game to long, and many players will complete it in a single attempt, but it’s certainly more entertaining and engaging than just sitting and watching a movie.
The open-world dino-adventure Ark: Survival Evolved features a vibrant, living ecosystem for you to explore – but be careful, there are dinosaurs. You can craft increasingly advanced weapons, upgrade your mud hut to a stone castle, and tame the largest and deadliest dinos on the island. The best part? You can do all of this online among other players, which adds a real sense of danger when you encounter another human in the wild.
The good news is that Ark features a split-screen mode that’s perfect for you and a mate to jump in and explore. The catch? It is only available in the offline single player mode of the game. It offers the same features as the online game but without the interruption from other players. While this might sound like a bad idea, at least your creations won’t be destroyed by other players while you’re offline! It happened to us. A lot of.
Like most FIFAs before it and like those to come, FIFA 19 features split-screen co-op support, allowing you to team up with your friend against other online players. If you want to make it a little more personal, compete against your buddy and settle the score once and for all.
You get access to all players and clubs – one of the advantages of FIFA compared to Pro Evo – and you can play as your favorite club. Additionally, it’s pretty self-explanatory; It’s football with your buddy, Innit.
LEGO DC Super Villains is the latest LEGO-themed title and unlike Batman and The Avengers, this time you play as the bad guys. You take on the roles of DC classics like The Joker, The Riddler, Scarecrow and more as they battle a cast of new Super Heroes who are not as they appear.
And like other LEGO games in the series, your buddy can grab a controller and join the action at any point in the campaign or while exploring the open world.
But while previous games in the series merged the split-screen into one large display when nearby, the split-screen layout remains in this game. It’s pretty standard, but we certainly preferred the original approach to co-op gameplay as it doesn’t limit your vision.
If you like racing and soccer, you’ll love Rocket League if you haven’t played it yet. The idea of the game is simple; Using your car (equipped with a missile, of course) you must ram the giant soccer ball into the opponent’s goal while defending against incoming attacks and planning epic tricks in the air to gain the upper hand in online and bot matches.
While you may already know that you can play with or against friends online, Rocket League also supports split-screen gaming for up to four players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This improves Rocket League dynamics immeasurably as you can instantly communicate with your teammates and have a good overview of the entire team’s positioning at all times.
While the first Battlefront was a good attempt at creating a Star Wars-style first-person shooter, Battlefront 2 refined the series and offers some fun play, whether you’re fighting alone or with a friend via split-screen co-op. You can play a number of offline wave-based modes with your buddy, and while you can’t take part in the main campaign, Battlefront 2 offers split-screen support for online multiplayer.
This means you’ll both have access to the same adrenaline-pumping multiplayer game modes, where you can do everything from snipe Yoda as he bounces through Hoth’s frozen landscape, to dogfights in state-of-the-art ships smashing the wreckage of the Dodge Death Star over Endor. What’s not to like?
