Fortnite No Build Tournament – First Build Free Tournament In-Game

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 recently launched in-game, bringing the usual wave of new additions to the game. However, a big change came with the new season, Epic Vaulted Building. Building has been removed from the game, at least temporarily. Building will definitely return to the game, but for now, Fortnite plays like any other shooter.

While the builds are still active in the game’s competitive mode, we got our first Fortnite No Build tournament.

Fortnite No Build Tournament

Fortnite No Build Tournament – Chloe Kim Tournament

This Fortnite tournament will be the first without builds. The event is one of a number of regular tournaments that Epic hosts to celebrate the release of icon skins. These are skins modeled after real people including some of the top Fortnite players and top Fortnite streamers. This one is for Chloe Kim, players can join the in-game tournament for a chance to win the skin along with other cosmetics for free. Players had a three-hour session to try to earn as many points as possible between elimination and placement.

As the first Fortnite No Builds tournaments, the matches looked very different. Most pros have excellent in-game aiming skills, but it’s the cranking builds that usually set players apart. This tournament was very different as players relied on natural cover and hid to escape firefights.

It doesn’t currently look like there isn’t a building here to stay. Builds are still active even in Arena mode. However, that first Fortnite No Build tournament was a different matter. Some players even request a permanent mode with no builds.

Market for No Builds in Fortnite?

Fortnite’s recent update disabled building entirely, and we’ve now seen how that plays out at the pro level. The tournament was a fun side event, but could we see no builds becoming a bigger part of Fortnite in the future? Some players have enjoyed the change. The focus is on gunplay and the new movement mechanics make it easier to navigate even without builds to rely on. The change has been hailed as fresh by some players, and it seems that casual gamers are enjoying this new form of Fortnite.

While the no-build Fortnite tournament was fun, it’s unlikely to make the leap to full-time play. Building is a key mechanic in Fortnite, it’s basically what makes the game unique. The gunplay isn’t the most polished and doesn’t really compare to what’s found in other non-building battle royales. The move is nice news, but it wouldn’t really work full-time. The large esports scene for Fortnite also relies on the building mechanics.

The first Fortnite No Build tournament was a success. However, once big cash prizes return to tournaments, building will likely be back as well. But as a side game, it was a lot of fun.
