How To defrag Windows 10
If you want to know how to defragment Windows 10, then you’ve come to the right place.
Defragmenting Windows might seem like a pretty mundane task, but it’s actually a pretty useful one. This is because it can help reduce the time it takes to access data on your hard drive by pushing all the data fragments closer together.
Defragmenting is not only a useful process, but also a fairly easy one, as our handy step-by-step guide below will show you. While it’s important to know that defragmentation isn’t recommended if your PC uses an SSD, only those with an HDD (hard disk drive) should follow the steps below.
The short version
- Search for “defrag” in the Windows search bar.
- Select the drive you want to optimize
- Press ‘Optimize’
Search for “defrag” in the Windows search bar.
The first step to defragmenting your PC is to go to the Defragment and Optimize Drives menu. To do this, simply search for “defrag” in the Windows search bar and it should return a result for the menu.
To get into the menu, either click on it or press Enter
Select the drive you want to optimize
Once the menu opens, you need to select the drive you want to optimize by clicking on it in the menu.
You can basically optimize any drive you want, be it your Windows drive or any additional hard drives you have installed, including external ones.
Then, to start the optimization process, click on the “Optimize” button. A dialog box may appear asking for administrator permissions to run the task. Just click Yes.
Once this is done, the process should be complete.
