How to organise your Microsoft OneNote notes with subpages

0

If you use Microsoft OneNote to save notes, you’ll be aware of how easy it is for them to become disorganized. This will keep them organized and prevent them from becoming a mess.

We tend to create notes when we surf the web, when an idea comes to us, on the PC or on the mobile phone. When you have a thought that you want to remember, or when you surf the web and find something useful for a project, we jot it down in OneNote.

This leads to disorganized notes organized by the date we had the idea or discovered the resource we want to remember. That might not be the best way to store them, and it often requires extra work when we need to access those notes or when we need to find something.

Notes can of course be divided into sections, and each section can have any number of pages. But you can go further and a page within a section can have a subpage and a subpage can also have a subpage.

By creating pages, subpages, and subpages of subpages, you can organize your notes in a way that makes sense and makes it easier to find what you need. If you’re making notes for a report or project, it can be helpful to create a similar organizational structure.

I’m using the Windows 10 app for the screenshots. However, the full OneNote program can be used, or you can even use the OneDrive website. The website is useful if you use Linux and allows you to use the same features as the Windows 10 app.

Several more pages have been added. Vegetarian was added and right clicked as in the previous step and Create subpage was selected in the menu.

Two more sides have been added – Noodles and Rice. These were right-clicked and Create subpage was selected. This has been repeated to make it a subpage of a subpage.

You can see in the screenshot below that we now have main courses with sub-pages of Meat and Vegetarian, and pasta and rice are sub-pages of Vegetarian. Subpages are marked by indentation.
Drag and drop pages

Make pages into subpages in Microsoft OneNote

Let’s say you want to add undersides of meat, e.g. B. beef and turkey. You would add the sides to the bottom of the list, make them a sub (twice), then click and drag them just below meat. , You could also add appetizers to a side and then drag that up and insert before main courses.

Remember, if your notes aren’t in the best order, click and drag them up or down the list to rearrange them.

You can’t make a subpage out of a subpage out of a subpage, and a page can only be indented twice.

OneNote on Linux and on the web

If you are using someone else’s computer, e.g. For example, at work or at home, you can go to the OneDrive website and sign in to your account. Click the menu button in the top right corner and click A note to open it in the browser.

The OneNote web app

This works on Linux, and the Office Web Apps gives Linux users access to web versions of OneNote, Word, Excel, and other Office programs.

The layout of OneNote in a browser is different, but the functionality is more or less the same. The section list is on the left instead of at the top.

Microsoft OneNote on the OneDrive website

Select a section and a list of pages will appear. Here is our recipe section. Right-click on a page and select it increase indent to make a subpage out of it. Pull it in again to make it a sub of a sub.

Your OneNote notes will be a disorganized mess if you let them. Don’t allow it! Create subpages either on the go or whenever you have a few minutes, open OneNote and click and drag pages to rearrange them and right-click to make them subpages. Add additional pages as headings, like Main Courses, Meat, and Vegetarian.
